Two people who did this the hard way — so you don't have to.
Moving abroad is exciting, but it can also be confusing. Between visas, paperwork, finding work, understanding requirements and settling into a new country, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.
That's why we created Luma.
Luma is a free platform that brings everything you need into one place. From personalised guides and checklists to visa information, farm-day tracking, job resources and practical tips, we help you understand what to do next at every stage of your journey.
We're building the platform we wish we'd had when we first arrived in Australia — a place where migrants can feel organised, informed and confident instead of spending hours searching across dozens of websites and Facebook groups.
The name Luma comes from the word light. To us, it represents clarity in moments of uncertainty. Our mission is simple: turn confusion into clarity, so you can focus less on bureaucracy and more on building your new life.
Built by travellers, for travellers.
Hand-built with care from our kitchen table to yours.
Why we built Luma
Moving country shouldn't need a law degree or an expensive agent. The information is out there — it's just scattered across twenty tabs and written in a language designed to confuse you.
Luma is free for travellers, always. We only earn anything when we recommend a genuinely useful trusted partner — insurance, a bank account, a SIM — at the moment you actually need it. We never sell trust, and we never push what you don't need.
Built by migrants, for migrants
Hi! We're Clarisse Lacote and Augusto Bunge, the founders of Luma.
We both arrived in Australia in 2019 on a Working Holiday Visa, but with completely different plans.
Augusto came from Argentina hoping to build a long-term future in Australia. Clarisse, from France, planned to spend one year travelling and discovering the country before returning home.
Life had other plans.
Over the years, we've experienced many of the same challenges our users face today. Together we've navigated the Working Holiday Visa, Student Visa, Post-Graduate Visa and Employer Sponsored Visa. We've searched for regional work, dealt with paperwork, changed plans, learned immigration rules and built a life here — one step at a time.
For Clarisse, the biggest challenge was finding a job with limited English, and securing a good shared house proved much harder than expected. Augusto spent his first months working as a painter before transitioning into the digital world, where he now specialises in web management.
Those experiences shaped Luma.
Together, we're building the app we wish we'd had when we first landed in Australia.
"Over all these years in Australia, we spent hundreds of hours trying to understand what to do next. The information was everywhere, often outdated, and it was hard to know who to trust. Luma exists because we believe every migrant deserves a clear roadmap, reliable information and the confidence to enjoy the journey — not just survive it."
